We produce direct metal parts from CAD data by ultrasonic welding layer of coil aluminum foil strips to a prepared metal substrate. Using high-frequency vibratory energy and pressure to induce interatomic attraction creates a metallurgical bonding between the metal foil and the substrate surfaces. AQST and HTR provides a multi-use/ configurable Planetary Rover platform proven through over 3500 qualification tests performed by ESA for EXOMARS 2026 mission. The wheels, where developed for lunar rovers. Also, was designed focused on minimizing the cost of transport for the rover over the traverse. Based on an extensive test program, performed for the AWE wheels, the methodology can also be used as a prediction tool for the energetic needs of any rover on a long lunar trajectory
AQST provides a patented HTR wheel technology. The AWE(R) wheel is 340mm in diameter. It features an in-hub motor drive and an auxiliary low power motor for stiffness variation. It has a mass of 5 kg, max torque of 35Nm, and a max speed of 1km/h. It has a nominal load-bearing capacity of 250N and a temporary overload factor of 3. The width of the wheel is 120mm. The overall arrangement permits a 400% average radial stiffness increase.
